ArgentinaLarge glacier that actively crumbles into sea. Take a boat trip to see them from underneath & large deep blue icebergs floating by. Take some warm clothes: it's cold & windy down here. Also book ahead, as the local town is full of tourists, but it's really worth it. Iguazu, ArgentinaLarge collection of 80m high waterfalls set in a sliver of tropical rainforest with C17 missions nearby. Cusco, PeruC16 capital of Incas, with fairly well preserved ruins, streets & walls . Turned into baroque town by Conquistadors, which is largely what you see now. Centre of Inca tourism with an airport, good restaurants & hotels. You can walk to the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman which is spectacularly large. Day tour take you to Tambo Machay and obviously Machu Picchu. PeruAlternatively named Manu Biosphere. Probably the most diverse habitat of South America, both plants & animals. For those in search of larger animals, see tapirs & jaguars, giant otters & armadillos, parrots & macaws. Trujillo, PeruChan Chan was capital of Chimu kingdom. This was the largest city in ancient South America. Large mud brick Moche pyramids are in desert nearby. Popular surfing beach also close. Flores, GuatemalaSpectacular C6BC Mayan ruins set in jungle. Sit on temples set on small pyramids and look out over to other temples showing through like islands and monkeys at tree-top level. Jungle contains many unexcavated ruins. MexicoBeautiful ruin of Zapotec capital on hill overlooking Oaxaca. Mexico City, MexicoSouth America's answer to Giza. Extensive 6th century ruins (which would be even bigger had they not been appallingly excavated). This would have been one of the most important places in the region at the time.
