About caroline_major

Raised in the quirkily Mediterranean climate and remote corners of Western Australia, Caroline Major developed a passion for adventure early in life. She made her home in England ten years ago but spends winters travelling, writing and sampling world cultures. Over the the last four years, she has visited over 200 hotels for Travel Intelligence and contributed articles to the press in the UK, China and Australia.

Shintori

Established (by Shanghai standards) Japanese restaurant dishing up some of the best in town. Set in a moody warehouse with an open kitchen the black cod will never disapoint, nor will the braised daikon. Wash it down with a tasting plate of sake, served on ice.

Guyi Hunan Cuisine

Fantastically fiery Hunan cuisine specialises in fish. Signature flavours are chili, coriander, ginger and licorice root. The extensive menu is a fantastic taste adventure for those unfamiliar with the cusine and a firm favourite for those lucky enough to be able to eat here regularly

Beautiful, Japanese inspired handcrafted ceramics from Southern China. Stark white, pale minty green or earthen in organic shapes. Pieces from spin are covetable and incredibly affordable. Pack light and fill your suitcase with spin pieces.

Delicious Modern Australian, Asian Fusion served up in a sweet colonial house. Book ahead for a courtyard table in the summer. The Tasting Menu is well worth the three hours it will take and of course depending on the season could see fabulous creations using scallops, duck, local beef and the freshest tastiest produce available. Aarli Bar

Modern Australian Cuisine, specialising in fresh whole fish. Select one sized to suit your party and then choose from the days three sauces. If you're not a fan of the best fish in the world (Arguabley, WA brings up the best seafood in the world from it's unpolluted patch of the Indian Ocean) there's an extensive menu of tapas. The Aarli Bar is the best bite in town.
