UNESCO says:
As a holy city for Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Jerusalem has always been of great symbolic importance. Among its 220 historic monuments, the Dome of the Rock stands out: built in the 7th century, it is decorated with beautiful geometric and floral motifs. It is recognized by all three religions as the site of Abraham's sacrifice. The Wailing Wall delimits the quarters of the different religious communities, while the Resurrection rotunda in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre houses Christ's tomb.

dzohar says:
The "Wailing" Wall, where Jews have for 2000 years have lamented the destruction of the Temple by Rome, is properly the Western Wall of the Temple constructed by King Herod. It is today the holiest site for Jewish pilgrims and worshippers.
South of the Dome of the Rock is the Mosque of al-Aqsa , holy to Muslims.
The Old City containing most of the Holy Places is very small, just one square mile, and can easily be explored on foot. The modern city of Jerusalem outside the city walls is by contrast much larger, and with its half a million inhabitants is the capital of Israel.
