Enter this way (down the escalators to the Carousel shopping centre), not via the Pyramid - you can bypass enormous queues.
What else can we say about one of the greatest museums in the world? - ranks alongside the British Museum in London and the Hermitage in St Petersburg in the top three.

For fine art lovers - and there's only one other sort of lover you need to be to appreciate Paris - the Musee d'Orsay is second choice after the Louvre. Great collection of Impressionist and post-impressionist art. Read more »

Paris's great Cathedral, once turned into a museum of atheism during the revolution. Come early or late to avoid the crowds. Dark and magnificent. Read more »

The necropolis of ancient Thebes. Tombs with very well preserved heiroglyphs that bring this magnificent culture alive. See them before they all turn back to sand due to the Aswan dam. Read more »
